My Year in Review

I cannot believe I'm finally sitting still long enough to write a blog post ! It's only been 4 months since my last post..where have I been?

Well, since you kindly asked..

1. Working with the most amazing clients

I 100% believe that your vibe attracts your tribe, and I've been so lucky to work with like-minded ladies that have allowed me to design for their amazing businesses. SO. FLIPPIN'. LUCKY.

As much as I love creating, the inspiration they have given me from their stories, passion and dreams has filled up my heart and has pushed me to work harder at doing the #girlboss thang - it's really cemented my own dream to focus on helping women making their creative visions come alive, and some of my own visions, too.

Thank you to the goddesses (and god) behind PA ExcellenceLove Inspire Heal, ABR, Sunday Morning Studio, Viva Hair and Maison Miru/Experimental Jewellery Club for letting me be a part of your world this year! So much love.

2. Freelancing for Dream & Do

Quite literally a dream. Insert star emojis here.

I was so lucky to help the Dream Team out for a month on various projects that involved a bit of Shopify, Squarespace and Mailchimp Design and Content/Social Media Management. I have learnt so, so much with them, and I knew from day one of being in their studio that quitting my day job was 100% worth the freelance struggle. From their support, the confidence in myself and my work has gone to another level, something you really need when you're just starting out in the Design jungle. Such a priceless experience.

They even invited me to the screening of Dream, Girl. They are my Dream Girls! Thank you so much, Dream & Do.

3. Holding Paint for Maricor | Maricar

Holy moly. I'm still a little in shock that 3 weeks ago, I walked past a 3 metre long artwork in the MARCS Pitt that I somehow had the chance to help Maricor | Maricar with - still pinching myself.

I discovered the animator/embroiderer twin sister duo whilst studying and fell in love with their work and their attitude - so when they put a call out on Instagram for a studio hand and I just so happened to be free, I put my hand up and landed 2 days hanging with Maricor, creating a giant photoshoot mural for their collaboration with MARCS! It was such an amazing experience to be in the presence of someone in the industry that you admire so much showing you their craft, how they work, their inspirations.. It was just..amazing.

They then lovingly invited me back for their I Heart Patterns workshop where I got to learn more about their techniques and process, and make something cute for myself - something I never ever make time to do, so overall, it was total magic.

Thank you so much again Maricor | Maricar !

4. Collab-ing with my BFF

Jess of The Notewriter/Jesslyn.work has been my gal pal since Year 7, and also graduated from Shillington this year! It's been such a journey watching each other grow into graphic designers, and it's now even more exciting as we've been able to help each other out on projects as well as starting to plan our own. So many ideas! Much fun.

We committed to studying at Shillington together, and I'm so glad we did. If it wasn't for Jess, I probably would have not had the courage to do the course at all. She pushed me to do it, and I'll be forever grateful for her changing my life like that! BRB - need tissues.

Okay - one more bit to go - let's take this blog post out with a bang!

5. Being featured on Shillington's Graduate Feature

I'm still a little unsure if I'm being Punkd, but I'm so chuffed to be featured on Shillington's blog alongside some other stellar Shillo grads! Such an amazing way to end 2016. Especially as it was this exact time last year that I made the decision to quit my day job and commit to what is easily now the best decision I've ever made. I talk more about it in the feature - have a read here.

Thank you so much to Shillington and the gang in the Sydney Studio for even pondering the thought of featuring me.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

2016 has been pretty darn good to me, and I cannot wait to see what 2017 has in store!
What mischief will I make? Will I use Serifs more than San Serifs? Will I convert to Minimalism? We shall see.

Thank you for all of your support in 2016!

Love and Light,
D. x
